The Story of Silver in Savannah: Creating and Collecting Since the 18th Century and Silver From the Rizza Collection
Telfair Museums, Savannah, Georgia, 2010, 2013
Featuring over 600 objects, The Story of Silver in Savannah examined the important role Savannah played in the production and collection of silver in Georgia’s largest coastal city. Building on the museum’s Savannah-related silver holdings, this notable exhibition and accompanying catalogue brought together numerous public and private collections that featured Savannah-made silver, as well as wares made in America and Europe, and was the first and only exhibition to use all three Telfair sites (images below only show installation in Telfair galleries). This exhibition garnered a lot of attention, and promoted several donations of silver, including over 400 pieces from the collection of Dr. Frank A. Rizza. Silver from Dr. Rizza's donation was featured in a 2013 exhibition that I curated at the Jepson Center, which featured an interview with the silver and furniture collector, former owner of a New Orleans antique store, and a retired pediatric surgeon.
